Landfill has become an underlying source of surface and groundwater pollution if not efficiently managed, due to the risk leachate infiltration into land aquifers. The generated is considered a serious environmental threat for public health, because toxic recalcitrant nature its constituents. Thus, it must be collected appropriately treated before being discharged environment. At present, there no single unit process available proper treatment as conventional wastewater processes cannot achieve satisfactory level degrading substances present. Therefore, growing interest in examination different maximum operational flexibility. Based on characteristics, discharge requirements, technical possibilities, regulatory requirements financial considerations, several techniques have been applied degradation, presenting varying degrees efficiency. this article presents comprehensive review existing research articles pros cons various degradation methods.
